alissa j. is a communicator of ideas through print design & visual arts. Her designs are simple, feminine, and delicate; with an underlying desire to communicate optimism and creativity.
alissa is interested in exploring culture & language. she is strongly connected to East Asian culture and practices Japanese calligraphy as well as studying the language.
With an Arts & Culture Outreach residency in Hong Kong in February 2010, alissa taught zine workshops and co-founded a collaborative subculture documentation platform about zines as Handroll with two Hong Kong artists. This is an open discussion of small differences in communication of ideas between American and Hong Kong culture; emphasis is on Chinese American and Post Colonial Hong Kong cultures.
She is a longtime member of the Independent Publishing Resource Center and resides in Portland, Oregon - although she travels often.
